Vaccines save lives. It’s estimated that if each child born in the United States received vaccination on time, we could prevent about 42,000 deaths and 20 million cases of preventable disease in a given year. Universally, we as parents believe that all children have the right to healthy development and the opportunity to achieve at their highest potential. This blog will serve as a forum for us to discuss the ways in which we can move closer to fulfilling this aspiration. Here, we’ll explore what are the new developments in child health and vaccine safety, who are the individuals and organizations making a difference in these arenas and how can we, as parents, educate one another in ways that are central to our common background as caregivers to our children.
About Lynn Bozof
My name is Lynn and I serve as the president of the National Meningitis Association. The fact that vaccines save lives matters to me immensely, as I lost my son to a preventable disease in 1998. I’m a passionate advocate for the right to a healthy upbringing for every infant, child and teenager. Educating families, medical professionals and others about theease with which we can protect not only our immediate family members, but our entire community, with simple efforts is what I love to do. I see this blog as a forum where numerous voices and mine can share in a robust discourse about the benefits, risks and myths of immunization—hopefully driving awareness about the best approaches to disease prevention.
